Bridget R. Rogers
Research interests are in the areas of processing and materials properties
of thin films. The goal of this research is to determine the process
fundamentals, such as gas phase transport, surface diffusion, and chemical
kinetics, which define thin film processes.
John A. Roth
Research is being carried out on chemical oxidation of pollutants.
Activities include oxidation using ozone, hydrogen peroxide oxidation
(Fenton's reagent), and hydrogen peroxide using complexed metals as
catalysts to extend the operation pH range of the process. Application to
waste waters and soil remediation are being investigated.

Edwin L. Kugler
Dr. Kugler's research interests are focused on heterogeneous catalysis,
hydrocarbon separations and materials science. His current interests in
catalysis concern catalytic cracking (the petroleum refining process that
converts heavy oils to gasoline) and the synthesis of alcohols from CO and
H2 mixtures. He is working on the separation of coal liquids by molecular
size and type, and is studying the effect of high temperature combustion
conditions on zeolites and ceramic materials.
Aubrey L. Miller
Dr. Miller's interests involve multiphase flow theory and experiments that
are specific to cold model circulating fluidized beds, bubbling fluidized
beds, bubble columns, three phase reactors, etc.
Peter G. Stansberry
Dr. Stansberry's research interests are centered around the material
science of carbonaceous substances. The research is focused toward
practical applications and entails fundamental studies in catalysis,
high-temperature reactions, liquid-crystalline fluids, and pyrolytic
mechanisms.
Alfred H. Stiller
Stiller has worked in the energy area since 1976. His work has
concentrated on the areas of (1) coal dissolution, (2) reclamation of
dispoiled mine lands, and (3) iron sulfide compounds for coal liquefaction
catalysis.
John W. Zondlo
Dr. Zondlo's research program is centered around the investigation of
fundamental phenomena underlying coal utilization and processing. Much of
the work is process oriented and touches on the areas of reaction
engineering, solution chemistry and the use of catalysts in synthetic
fuels production.
