We encourage students to consult with the teaching assistant first when they experience difficulty in a course, for a primary duty of teaching assistants is to help students. Most students feel free to ask the professor questions out of class, and the faculty encourage this. If there are needs which go beyond this we will then arrange for a tutor, but we don't have a stable of tutors available for courses at all times.

Chemical engineers (and B.S. Chemists) take CHEM 111-112, General Chemistry and CHEM 119, Quantitative Chemistry, in the first year. The University gives credit for CHEM 111 and CHEM 112 with an AP score of 5; however, we suggest these students take the Honors section of CHEM 111 and CHEM 112 which students find rewarding. Other students elect to enroll in organic chemistry.
