April 29, 2008: Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most prevalent form of dementia, affects some 4 million people in the United States. It is the third most costly disease, after cancer and cardiovascular disease. And not only is there no cure for Alzheimer's; there is no accurate pre-mortem diagnostic tool. Only an autopsy can indicate for sure that a patient had the disease. |
