Surfactants in ionic liquids

My senior thesis work focuses on an investigation of the self-assembly of surfactant systems in ionic liquids. The bulk of the thesis is based around testing a hypothesis that mixed Pluronics (triblock polymers), specifically, L121, P123, and F127, will form vesicles just above the critical micelle concentration (CMC) in the IL Ethyl ammonium nitrate (EAN). Conductivity measurements were done to determine the CMC.

Initial work was done to characterize the Isotope effect on the CMC of each Pluronic. The L121-EAN system has shown to be especially interesting and we are also looking into the possibility of the formation of thermostable vesicles.

Optical microscopy, rheology, SANS, and USANS data will all be done to show the microstructure.
