Rheology

Rheometers

Our group maintains a full complement of state-of-the-art rheometric instruments, allowing for mechanical characterization of fluids ranging from dilute solutions to gels, pastes, and glasses:

- TA Instruments AR-G2 stress rheometer(s)
- ARES strain rheometer
- Paar Physica MCR-500 strain/stress rheometer
- Bohlin CVO rheometer

Rheological analysis

In addition to measurement capabilities, we are also interested in the development of new tools and methods for analysis of rheological data. Two examples are given below.

Fig 1. Combining viscoelastic measurements allows for material characterization over eight decades in frequency.

Fig 2. Fourier decomposition of large amplitude oscillatory shear data allows for separation of stress into various components.
