The Award: In 1953, Dr. Siple became the first United States Scientific Attache to Australia and New Zealand. His efforts led to the development of the five-year science agreement between the Unites States and Australia, signed in October 1968. This is but one of the achievements of Dr. Paul Siple's distinguished career. He is remembered by many who knew him as a friend and a warm hearted colleague. To the world he is known especially for his outstanding contributions to explorations in Antarctica, but in a real sense his interests encompassed all fields of science and intellectual endeavors. Therefore, it is most appropriate that the Silver Medallion for Achievement at this 2002 Army Science Conference should be the Paul A. Siple Memorial Award.*
